Installing DirectX 9 does not hurt your system, it will not break anything. You can get a Windows 10 Pro for $28 from Kinguin (use code “vulkk” for extra 3% OFF) – I got a copy myself from them :) Click the appropriate 'Download Now' button and download your Windows file version.
There is no overriding or replacing, the installation just adds another layer. Locate your Windows operating system version in the list of below 'Download DXSETUP.exe Files'. If the game can benefit from DirectX 11 or 12, it WILL use those. By doing that, you DO NOT remove the DirectX 12, no, it just installs extra libraries and gives the game you play an option which ones to use. Download the file from the link I have provided below (leading to the official Microsoft website) and install with no manual changes during the process.
